A: We ship via USPS Priority mail. The plants are packaged in plain newsprint and we use recycled peanuts for filler

Q: How is the shipping cost determined?

A: It's based on the total combined weight of your order according to your zip code. We have to estimate the shipping weight prior to shipping, and if you overpay by more than 50 cents of the actual shipping cost, we'll give you a refund for the total amount of your overpayment.

A: Plants in 4" pots or smaller are shipped in their pots. Plants in 6" containers or larger, are shipped dry root which means that we take the plant out of the pot and remove some of the soil.

A: Yes, the plant pictured is the one that you'll receive. Occasionally a plant may develop an unforeseen problem that we aren't aware of until after the plant is prepared for shipping. If this happens, we will either replace it with another one of the same variety, or if we don't  have another one, we'll give you a refund.

Q: The plant in the picture is blooming.  Will the one I receive be in bloom
A: It may or may not be.

Q: Where can my plant we grown, indoors or out?
A: Our plants are greenhouse grown under 60% shade. During the summer, the temperature can get to 120 degrees but we try to keep it around 115 using fans. If you plan to place your plant outdoors, it needs to be placed in an area that is partially shaded but gets at least 2 - 3 hours of direct sunlight per day. If you are planning to put it in a sunnier location, you need to acclimate it very slowly or it will sunburn. They can also be grown indoors as long as they get 2 - 3 hours of direct sunlight.

In the winter, we don't let the night time temperature fall below 42 degrees. If you plan on keeping them outdoors, we can't guarantee that they'll survive since they have been raised in moderate temperatures. We suggest that they be brought indoors during the colder months and be placed in an area where they will get 2 - 3 hours of direct sunlight per day. Some of the varieties that we offer are cold hardier and if you want to try and plant them outdoors, you'll need to acclimate them slowly and keep them dry during the winter season. But again, we can't guarantee they'll survive. If you're interested in a particular variety and want to know if it's cold hardy, a good place of reference is desert-tropcals.com.

Q: How often should I water?
A: During the summer months, give the plant a good soaking and water only after the soil is completely dry. During the winter, the plant can go without water for a few months. We only water about once during the winter months. They need this time to rest. If the plant starts looking raisin like, or shriveled, you can give it just a little water. A common mistake is overwatering and that will kill the plant. The plants do better with water that doesn't contain chlorine. We use well water, but you can use bottled water or rain water for best results.

Q: How often do I fertilize?
A: During the summer months, you can feed the plants with a product called Cactus Plus by Schultz. It's an easy way to feed them without a mess. Just add droplets to the water as per the instructions and you can use this with every watering. Another good fertilizer is Peters 20-20-20, but it is a little harder to find. You would use it half strength with every watering. Also, about once a month during late spring, summer and early fall, your plants will enjoy a light dose of fish emulsion.

Q: Will I receive care instructions?
A: Yes, we include care instructions with every order.

Q: Will the plants I order be labeled?
A: Yes, each plant will have a name label.

Q: What type of soil mixture should I use?
A: We suggest 40% Super Soil and 60% Perlite. You can use a very fine gravel, such as aquarium gravel for the topping
